Structural Engineer

3.2 Structural Engineer 

SJW Engineering provides a wide variety of engineering services. Structural engineers may vary in degree of responsibility based on technical abilities. Structural engineers vary from Grade 1 to Grade 5 depending on level of required oversight. 

The structural engineer will be responsible for the following tasks: 

Create structural calculations for buildings and structures using acceptable software (i.e. ETABS, ABAQUS, Clear Calcs, MATLAB. 

• Gaining proficiency in building codes 
• Gaining proficiency in trade codes (ACI, AISC, NDS, TMS etc.) 
• Ability to generate full-building model. 
• Ability to generate connection calculations for standard connections. 

Create structural calculations for buildings and structures using hand calculations as necessary. 

• Use hand calculations as necessary to validate computer-based calculations. 
• Use hand calculations to fill in where computer calculations are deficient. 

Create engineering documentation and maintain documentation using Revit and BIM360. May require AutoCAD at times. 

• Create drawings and sheet sets as indicated in the outline above. 

Create redline markups for customers. 

Necessary Qualifications 

Self-starter 

AutoCAD experience / Revit (or equal) experience 

RAM / Risa, or ETABS (SJW Uses ETABS) 

Experience with engineering calculations
