SJW Engineering provides premium engineering services to a wide variety of industries. The VDC Structural engineer is intended to primarily help with building design and documentation. The role is heavily BIM oriented. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in creation of high-fidelity construction drawings and models from the structural perspective. 

Job Description / Tasks 

Experience 

• 2-5 years of experience with Revit, Tekla, or other similar CAD / BIM software 
• Bachelor’s degree required. Industry experience is desired. 
• VDC Structural Engineer II will continue to work under primary guidance of structural engineers. VDC Structural Engineer II will gain technical proficiency and will ultimately be promoted to VDC Structural Engineer III where more independence is expected.   

3-D Modeling 

• Model various structural components utilizing our Revit add-ins and manual methods. 
• Create and update structural 3-d models based on our client demands. 
• Bonus: Lumion 3-D rendering capabilities. 

Detailing 

• Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to create drawings (SD, DD, CD phase drawings). 
• Utilize Autodesk tools to create shop drawings as necessary. 
• Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to create and maintain details library. 

Customer Interaction 

• Maintain models on BIM 360. 
• Share and facilitate transfer of IFC files between customers. 
• Share and facilitate transfer of DWG files as necessary. 
• Participate in customer meetings. 
• Help with shop markups and Construction Administration tasks. 

Field Work 

• Site measurements may be necessary. Site measurements are typically the prevue of the field engineer, but may be delegated depending on workload. 
• Visit with customers at customer sites. 
• Meet with customers and troubleshoot design challenges. 
• Travel expected to be less than 10%. 

Necessary Qualifications 

• Revit literacy / competence 
• AutoCAD competence 
• Candidates with previous construction, steel erection, concrete experience will be in a very strong position to earn this position.
